2007 Winner Lesbian Fiction Reader’s Choice Awards Favorite Lesbian Romance Book
2008 Golden Crown Literary Society Finalist for Lesbian Debut Author

It’s Hollywood. Actresses hate getting passed over for roles and cold shoulders are common. Petty sniping is part of the fabric of the place, but it takes two to fight. Actress Cassidy Hyland is throwing a birthday party for her son which she hopes will spark a truce with her cold co-star Brenna Lanigan. Instead the encounter becomes the first step of a journey neither woman ever imagined her heart could take to love another woman.

Turning Point explores the struggle of these women caught between what is safe and sure, and what the heart truly wants even if it doesn’t understand.

Turning Point edition by Lara Zielinsky Literature Fiction eBooks

I liked this book very much. It is mainly a story of two famous movie stars, one dating a guy and the other married. They become friends and then lovers. Not really much angst I would say under the circumstances.

I loved the interactions they had with their kids. Cassidy with a five year old boy (Ryan) and Brenna with two older boys (James and Thomas).

The story was wonderful because it seemed so natural.

Negatives - there were many (MANY, MANY) instances of discussion with open quotes. What happened to the editing here? They were talking with one another and I didn't realize until I ran into a quote. A little confusing.

Great read. Good length and nice romance story.

Turning Point edition by Lara Zielinsky Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This is the first piece of lesbian literature that I have truly enjoyed. The character development was excellent and I thought the storyline was believable and flowed nicely. The only flaw I saw was the 'neat and tidy' ending the story had. Other than that I'm looking to forward to reading other books by this author.
The premise of Lara Zielinsky's "Turning Point" is a good one - two actresses working together on a series, professional animosity laid to bed (so to speak), and a blossoming relationship. Her writing style is appealing, as are her characters. Unfortunately there are a couple of issues that let this story down. The main one for me was the blithe approach to adultery. What should have been a very interesting and complex issue came across as shallow and incidental, and at times I almost felt as if the problem was being skirted and/or downplayed to give the love story more air time. In fact, it seemed not to be a problem at all, which I found impossible to believe. Of course this, and a few other character issues that I had, are a matter of personal opinion, but it detracted from the story in a very big way for me. Another small thing it does disturb me somewhat when original fiction isn't adapted enough to obscure the fanfic roots, especially if one isn't "into" that series/universe, and once the source of it clicked for me I did lose interest.

Not a bad read in general, but the above completely overshadowed the story for me.
I loved this book. I enjoyed getting to see the story from both main characters perspective and found myself really engrossed in their stories. I love the hollywood twist. I also enjoyed that the ending wasn't wrapped up too neat - it still left us feeling the ramifications of the characters relationship and made the story feel more real.
What's not to like?
After reading so many novels that portray immature leads/protagonists, it is always a relief to read a book like this. I especially like stories where the leads are kind, well mannered and behave like adults.

A well deserved award winner.

I have read the sequel (Turn for Home) and it is fantastic too.

Lara Zielinsky, please do not stop writing.
I absolutely love this story!

It was a slow burn between the two women and once they had caught up with their feelings, it was realistic as they discovered the excitement, hesitation and elation they felt together.

The author does a fantastic job in giving the two women a voice and the strong feel of their family lives and the many dynamics that it en-tales.

What really struck me was there was no rush with intimacy. The steady progression was well worth the wait and it would've cheapen the story if they were jumping into bed together right away.

Sing you Home is my favorite lesbian fictional story and I have to say, this equals the quality of that book.

I highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a beautiful love story between two women. A classic piece of literature! A love story that stays with you!

I guarantee, once you finish reading this one, you will be ordering part two Turn for Home straight away!
I'll give this one a solid 3 stars, but it still falls towards the upper levels of that rating. Part of me felt that the book was a touch too dry or unemotional in its prose, but a part of me was fascinated by the detail in which the psyches of each of the main characters was delved into, unflinchingly. Circumstances would simultaneously seem somewhat contrived, and provide enormous illumination into the motivations of the characters involved.

I enjoyed the careful, thoughtful way the relationships were developed in this book, not just between the two main characters, but their families and friends as well. I like characters who spend time in their heads, but these characters sometimes approached the realm of being too "head heavy" to me. Again, though, as the thought crossed my mind to be annoyed, the story would rescue itself. I do have a personal hang-up about unfaithful spouses that made the reading a bit uncomfortable for me. I fall in to the trap where I want my characters to be the best they can be, and thus get distressed when they let themselves and those around them down, but ultimately it worked for me given the setting, the build up, and the motivations.

I was wary about the setting. It seems like a lot of authors throw settings into the Hollywood realm in order to have an easily manipulated back-drop, stressors and ready-made drama, and are either too enamored with the setting, or make it too generic, but this book avoided those pitfalls for me. It was interesting to have the cast interactions, and how the plots of various episodes would resonate with different aspects of their lives. It was a clear plot device, and yet never made a nuisance of itself in my opinion.

This is a very solid book with moments of brilliance, and an enjoyable read for me. I think some of the development could have been foregone in order to spend more time on the emotion and details of the wrap-up, but these are minor quibbles. The editing was fairly solid, and the writing was splendid in its character study.
